This an absolutely stunning Georgian Mule/Coffer/Chest, with the very rare secret hideaway (below interior candle box). This piece of furniture is a beauty and one of the best we have seen in a very long time. Large oak planks to inner base, oak panelling to front and back, original penny farthing hinge to right and later quality replacement "Baldwin Hinge" to left. Original very early nails and later dowels. Two drawer front , beautiful Brass escutcheons and handles. Carved and inlaid M.C. initials to middle front. Candle box with side panel slide revealing secret two drawer hide (very rare). We have researched and believe the piece to be very early around 1700's with later Georgian additions, then later Victorian repairs signifying this has been a well loved and though after piece. The patina of the oak is simply stunning. One of the best examples of a Coffer/Mule chest on the market. Excellent size and not only beautiful to look at but practical.
