Rare Mid Century Rosewood Leather Lounge Chair By Iconic Norwegian Designer Oddvin Rykken.

£545.00

A very rare Mid Century leather & rosewood chair designed by renowned Norwegian designer Oddvin Rykken. This design classic dates from the 1960s & was produced by the leading Norwegian mid century design manufacturers Rybo Rykken & Co. Resembling a baseball catcher's mit, the s-form offers perfect support and ultimate comfort. Constructed on a Brazilian Jacaranda rosewood frame with sweeping legs & clever use of cantilevered form. Original tan leather back rest, seat & rear back panel. A rare design classic. Very few of these chairs survive due to a limited production run. This chair is numbered 132 to base with manafacturers stamp. There were later teak versions produced after this version. The jacaranda rosewood originals rarely come to the open market. These statement design classics are highly sought after and to collectors are held in the same high esteem as Eames and other designers/manufacturers of the same period.

Born 1937, Oddvin Rykken is from a long line of cabinet makers, trained at the family workshop and factory, creating and designing from 1957. Working as a freelance Industrial Designer from 1979, Rykken had a key role in the development of the ergonomic balans®chairs (kneeling chair).

As a genuine antique/vintage item there is wear and use commensurate with age. The original leather is nicely worn with no splits or tears. Two of the seat buttons are missing but are not noticeable due to the way the leather has taken shape over the years. There are buttons to the rear seat and back rear pads if you wish to replace or they can be found easily on line. The leather seat pad to the front lower area has some nicks from use, neither of these points detract from the use or look of this fabulous design statement chair. Some wooden products may have signs of historic woodworm. As a precaution we apply a clear triple action woodworm treatment that also kills wet rot, dry rot and woodworm. Please look at all the images carefully and ask any questions pre purchase as we do not unfortunately offer refunds due to the size and shipping costs of our antiques/items.  All our items are available on line at Search & Rescued and other online stores.
