Rare Set Of Original Midcentury Erik Buch Model 49 Chairs With Matching Circular Rosewood Dining Table Circa 1949

A beautiful and rare set of four original midcentury model 49 dining chairs designed in Denmark in 1949 by Iconic designer Erik Buck for O.D. Møbler (Oddense Maskinsnedkeri). Together with a fabulous circular matched rosewood dining table this set has the Classic Midcentury  look. With exceptional design the model 49 dining chair is known for the elegant floating seat and floating backrest only connected to the frame with four small tubes. These are becoming one of the most desirable designs for collectors of mid-century Danish furniture.

Danish industrial designer Erik Buch (pronounced Buck) was born in 1923 in Copenhagen. Buch used simple organic, smooth lines to craft distinctive mid-century modern designs. Like many of his Danish contemporaries, Buch combined fabric, and leather with nicely grained woods, such as polished teak, oak, and rosewood.

Buch first found success with his now-iconic Model 49 chair (1949). The chair features a curved “floating” seat and a classic Scandinavian modern aesthetic. Many of Buch’s designs are named after the year in which they were conceived, especially those produced by the cabinetmaker and furniture manufacture Oddense Maskinsnedkeri. (Oddense was renamed O.D. Møbler in the late 1960s or early ‘70s, which is reflected on the labels of later Model 61 productions.) These Model 49 chairs and matching rosewood table are all original designed in 1949. They feature Buck's wonderful "floating" seat, lovely joinery and great attention to detail. Price includes table and four chairs.

As a genuine antique / vintage item there is wear and use commensurate with age. None of these detract from look or use of the piece and are very common in pieces of furniture of this age. Some wooden products may have signs of historic woodworm. As a precaution we apply a clear triple action woodworm treatment that also kills wet rot, dry rot and woodworm. Please look at all the images carefully and ask any questions pre purchase as we do not unfortunately offer refunds due to the size and shipping costs of our antiques/items.  All our items are available on line at Search & Rescued and other online stores.
