A beautiful early antique flame mahogany French Empire Commode chest of drawers. Dating from 1840/Louis Phillipe period. Furniture of the Louis Philippe period was the first to serve the bourgeoisie rather than royalty. Designers aimed to provide this busy class with comfort and practical living, whilst reflecting their social legitimacy with refined and stylish furniture.This gorgeous commode is a serious statement piece of furniture. Exquisite detail to flame mahogany book matched panels. The wonderful finish gives this commode a modern clean design. The timber itself has wonderful graining that almost disguises the five drawers. Dove tailed drawer liners with bottom secret drawer. Thick hand carved Gueridon grey/white marble top with routed edges. Fabulous mellow patina to the overall look of this wonderful chest. The design with no handles is true to a Commode’s history and a single key inserted into each central lock space is/was the original way of opening the drawers. This gave the design a clean and modern look, way ahead of its time. These beautiful pieces of early French antique furniture suit a multitude of settings. Bathroom, bedroom, living room, kitchen or commercial setting this piece would not look out of place.
