Abner Cutler & Son were cabinetmakers in Buffalo, New York who started production in the late 1820s. The firm specialised in rolltop desks and by the 1850s had been granted seven patents related to the desk's mechanism. The company was known as 'Cutler & Son' by the 1870s and exhibited at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. This is a rare survivor and a beautiful piece of engineering in its own right. As a genuine antique / vintage item there is wear and use commensurate with age. Crack to left rear side panel. Right hand side missing a small section of beading. Roll top in working order, slightly stiff to roll but completely useable. Some wooden products may have signs of historic woodworm. As a precaution we apply a clear triple action woodworm treatment that also kills wet rot, dry rot and woodworm.
