An exceptional example of the highly sought after Louis XVI Gilt Cane Bergere Salon two seat sofa. This is an absolutely beautiful early version in incredible order for its age. Deep patina from years of use, gilt and original worn paints of grey and gilt to arms where centuries of hands have rubbed away to reveal the original period base coat. High quality with double caned back and sides. Carved reeded frame with carved acanthus leaf and decorative giltwork. The perfect end of bed statement seat or bathroom dressing seat. We love this fabulous piece of history. 120cm x 50cm depth x 93cm full height. Seat height 47cm
Originally the chair would have had a cushion base over the seat area, we can supply at extra cost a tailor made feather down cushion in a choice of fabric if required through our in house upholstery service.
As a genuine antique/vintage item there is wear and use commensurate with age. Cane in fair order for age. Historic repair to left hand rear side. This does not detract from the look or use of this beautiful item. Some wooden products may have signs of historic woodworm. As a precaution we apply a clear triple action woodworm treatment that also kills wet rot, dry rot and woodworm. Please look at all the images carefully and ask any questions pre purchase as we do not unfortunately offer refunds due to the size and shipping costs of our antiques/items. All our items are available on line at Search & Rescued and other online stores.
