Nathan Furniture is an enduring British company with a proud history. It has consistently offered elegant designs and quality craftsmanship. In 1916 Russian born Barnett Nathan began to manufacture handcrafted pieces of furniture from a workshop in Hackney Road, East London.
Things really took off in 1952 when the second generation of family joined the business. Barnett's sons Jerrold and Clive refined the companies offering with a focus on dining room furniture. They also promoted the importance of investment in good design.
In 1963 the company made the decision to focus on the highly desirable Scandinavian style. Nathan released the 'Citadel' range of teak furniture which was simple, elegant and functional. The Corinthian model was the most expensive and top of the range model from this collection. It was a nationwide success and has influenced the design aesthetic of the company ever since.
Nathan Furniture continues today, carrying on the tradition of good design, quality and value.
They were on the cutting edge of furniture design and production in Britain throughout the mid 20th century. Under the design direction of the talented Sons Jerrold and Clive Nathan, the firm produced stunning high end furniture often defined by its clean modern lines and stark linear form.
The company favoured the use of grained teak as a staple design material but also on occasion embraced other luxurious timbers such as rosewood for its high end aesthetic. Nathan furniture was a hit with trendsetters of the day and today the timeless designs remain highly sought after.
