Antique Anchor Reliance Iron Safe By John Tann With Working Key Circa 1843

Produced in 1843 by Edward Tann and Sons - Iron Safe Makers this working antique safe with key was designed and patented with their "Reliance" lock, a name which was to become the company's trademark, sometimes extended to "Anchor Reliance". The lock and their chemical compound fire-resisting material were patented under the joint names of Edward and John Tann. In 1845 Edward transferred the business to his son becoming John Tann Ltd, a name which was to last through the remainder of the company's history. This rare model has the inner drawer, brass lock plates with insignia, brass switch handle and in original condition with working key.

As a genuine antique the product has wear and use commensurate with being over 100 years old. Some wooden products may have signs of historic woodworm.
