Antique Flame Mahogany Station Masters Ticket Drawers From Broad Street Railway Station Circa 1850

£1,650.00

This is a very beautiful piece of furniture with a fabulous back story. Originally used in Broad Street Station, Liverpool Street London. When the station was opened in 1850 these are the original drawers that held the tickets for sale. Travelling by rail in 1850 was a new and very upmarket way to travel thus London & North Western Railway had this exceptional piece of furniture commissioned. Both drawers have the original inserts where the tickets were stored. When the station was demolished the station master saved this piece from the bulldozer’s and on his retirement to Oxford took this piece of history to his new home. We were lucky enough to years later be invited to appraise and purchase many items from the gentleman’s family who informed of of the history. This beautiful piece of furniture screams quality and has been made with no expense spared with flame mahogany. Mahogany dove tailed drawer liners. Carved Acanthus leaf motif, original castors to carved triangular canted pedestal column on shaped bun feet. This looks fabulous from all angles and would suit as a bedside or end of sofa table. 74cm x 46cm x 39cm. Original remnants of Broad Street station label to inner carcass. A complete one of a kind. A true collectors piece for any railway enthusiast.
